When any powder substance is consumed, the body has to acknowledge it first, recognize it, then assist in the release of enzymes to break it down for absorption and finally allow its permeability cell membrane to accept it.
When fresh whole raw foods containing the complete living package are consumed, the body instantly recognizes it and goes to work immediately to prepare it to be absorbed.
The key is to feed the body recognizable food substances created by nature which naturally creates a liquid slurry the epithelial cell membrane can absorb into the blood. This is why all fruits and vegetables are mostly water. We don’t have any solid foods in our blood, so everything must be in a liquid form first.
Powders are nowhere near liquid. They are quite the opposite, so the body must rehydrate these foreign substances before they can be absorbed if allowed. Studies have shown only 2-3% bioavailability of powder Spirulina which matches up to the water content of these substances. Note, I said “substances” and not “food”, that is because food must be whole which feeds the body as a complete package with all the living enzymes intact.
Most of these substances get passed on down the digestive system and out the back door as the body rejects. This is why we commonly hear people tell us they always saw green coming out of them when they consumed powdered Spirulina, and to their surprise, they don’t see any with the fresh. This is because fresh Spirulina contains an intracellular blue nutrient-dense liquid called phycocyanin. This is the magic phytonutrient of Spirulina.
Fresh Spirulina will mostly be absorbed in the upper portions of the digestive system as a prebiotic whereas most powdered Spirulina will pass on down into the lower digestive system on the way out with very little benefit to the body.
