The clock starts the moment we harvest the Spirulina. The Spirulina cells will stay whole for approx 10-12 days after removing them from the water.
Once the cells begin to break, fermentation begins. Although it is relatively safe after the best-by date, we do not recommend consuming it once most cells have broken (lots of dark blue liquid visible in the jar) as the nutrient qualities accelerate the breakdown.
We have a solution if you’re considering ordering two jars, which are a popular choice among our customers. Use the first jar within 10-12 days for maximum benefits. For the second jar, scoop it out, spread it into ice cube trays, and freeze it within 24 hours of delivery. Freezing well before the cells break is vital to maintaining the Spirulina’s quality of nutrients while frozen.
This way, you can alternate between fresh and frozen. This works great for most healthy people. However, we always recommend fresh for those fighting a severe health challenge.
