In the morning, you can add freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice to the RLS.
Raw Living Spirulina is a whole food that grows in water with 10.3 – 10.5 pHs (very high alkaline), and lemon and lime are, by contrast, on the acid side of the spectrum.
So, if you drink it within 10-15 minutes, you’ll be good. However, allowing RLS to stay in a lemon or lime juice while in the fresh state for over 15 minutes is not recommended as the contrasting acid can break the living Spirulina cells with osmotic shock. It would, however, be ok to allow RLS to be premixed in distilled or natural 7ph+ spring water in the refrigerator with a lid on for up to 4 hours.
Adding lemon or lime juice to the RLS mix and freezing it in the ice cube trays would also be recommended. But, again, the ascorbic acid will act as a preservative, extending the freeze time.
