Magnesium is magnesium. The difference between all the different supplements is the transporting substance, (i.e. oxide, citrate, rotate, chloride, lactate, sulfate, carbonate, etc.) For this reason, many supplements manufacturers have “chelated” magnesium to organic and amino acids. The quality factor for these supplements is dependent on the amount of magnesium it contains, its bioavailability, and how well it dissolves in the gut. Bioavailability refers to the amount of magnesium in the supplement that can be assimilated by the body and used to produce the desired health benefits. Most supplements have low bioavailability ranges from 0-25%.
Whole plant foods absorb minerals (magnesium) from earth (water and/or soil). When we consume these plants or algae we absorb these minerals via the natural enzymatic pathways without the need for carrier substances. The magnesium contained in these plants is in harmony with nature’s complete cofactors and ratios to the other nutrients so the body recognizes and accepts (absorbs) this as a whole.
Raw Living Spirulina is a whole complete living organism that contains the pure magnesium absorbed via natural salts. The Spirulina cell as a whole is the carrier, not an isolated nutrient.
However, if you feel that you still require more Magnesium, it is important to get it in a living ionic form which is 100% bioavailable. We would recommend Eidon Liquid Magnesium.
